Aixam history
Aixam - Mega is a French manufacturer of diesel and electric cars, located in Aix-les-Bains. It was founded in 1983 to make micro cars in the old factory AROLA when that company failed.
In 1992 started making a set of standard size cars under the Mega brand, but in 2002 this brand was started using only the electric and diesel microfurgonetas.
The company currently produces the Aixam A.7XX series (powered by Kubota diesel engines), a microcar comparable with the Smart. A notable difference is that some of the smaller models can be driven without a driving license because they are classified as quad (moped).
Aixam-Mega is currently (2005), the largest European manufacturer of micro cars and its products are available in Austria, Belgium, Finland, Greece, Holland, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
