Audi logo history
Audi is a German manufacturer of automobiles, part of Volkswagen Group. The company is headquartered in Ingolstadt in the German state of Bavaria in Germany.
It is famous for producing elegant automobiles, sophisticated, sport and advanced technology, why has the motto "at the forefront of technology." Other trademarks that belong to the Volkswagen Group are Bentley (United Kingdom), Bugatti (France), SEAT (Spain), Lamborghini (Italy) and Skoda (Czech Republic).
August Horch (1868-1951), one of the pioneers of the German car industry, based in Cologne (Germany), the company car A. Horch & Cie. in 1899. After some financial difficulties and internal dissension, decided to leave the company to create a new car manufacturer. As Horch lost the legal dispute by the name of the company and could not return to using his last name, chose the name "Audi", the Latin translation of the German word "Horch", meaning "listen." Thus was born: AutomobilWerke Horch Zwickau GmbH in the July 16, 1909. Shortly after he changed the name to the company, using the Latin translation of his surname, making Audi Automobilwerke.
In September 1921, Audi was the first automaker to introduce driving on the left, based on greater visibility of vehicles. They did that in their model Audi K.
Subsequently, in 1932, both companies Horch and Audi, together with DKW (founded 1907) and Wanderer (founded 1885) were merged to form Auto Union AG, and cope with difficulties arising from the Great Depression of 1929, which affected, mainly by streamlining production processes and assembly. On June 29, 1932, born of the Audi logo, the four interlocking rings, the result of the Saxon alliance of four brands: Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer.
To avoid competition within the group, was assigned to each make a specific market segment: the luxury car segment means for Audi, motorcycles and small cars for DKW, mid-size vehicles to luxury vehicles and Wanderer in the highest the range for Horch.
Start the Second World War and two years after the start of the conflict in 1941, Auto Union AG focuses its production on the vehicles exclusively for military use. Since then, the whole world is immersed in a serious situation that is also left out strongly in the company. Under orders of the Soviet military administration in Germany in 1945 dismantled all factories in the region of Saxony, and soon after, in 1948, Auto Union AG in Chemnitz is located because of the low register.
